If you are new to applying for ARC please follow these instructions.
To apply for Connecticuts Alternate Route to Certification Program (ARC) you must complete an application. The instructions below will guide you through the process to ensure your application is complete. Additionally remember that along with the application you will need to submit hard copies of several documents to ARC. These required documents will be specified in the application.
We suggest printing a copy of these instructions for reference.
Before filling out the application;
- Familiarize yourself with the ARC catalog.
- If you haven’t already done so register for the Praxis I tests or apply for a Praxis I waiver.
- World Language Candidates should register for the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test if necessary.
- If you haven’t already passed them register for the Praxis II examinations.
- Request transcripts – Make arrangements, for your undergraduate and any graduate transcripts to be sent directly to ARC at 450 Columbus Boulevard, Suite 707 Hartford, CT 06103.
- Obtain an evaluation of your bachelors degree or any college education obtained outside the United States.
- Find three references. You’ll need to provide three references as part of your application.
Completing the Online Application
- Fill out all sections of the application form. Remember, you don’t have to finish it all in one go. When you start the application you’ll create a login and password so that you can come back to it whenever needed before submitting the version. Keep in mind;
a. While working on the application make sure to allow pop ups in your internet browser. Toolbars. Important information will appear in pop ups and without allowing them you won’t be able to access or print your reference forms.
b. If you spend, than 20 minutes on a single page without saving your data you’ll need to log in again and any unsaved information will be lost.
c. Once you submit your application no further changes can be made.
d. We highly recommend making a printed copy of your completed application for your records. Please refrain from sending a copy of your application to the ARC Office.
2. Print, sign and mail the signature page along with a resume. After finishing your application it is necessary to print out the “Signature Page.” Sign this page. Send it to ARC along with the application fee and a current copy of your resume.

3. Keep track of the completeness of your application. It is important to monitor whether all required documents (e.g., transcripts, recommendations) have been received by ARC. Click on the designated box to monitor your application. You will need your login credentials. Please note that you will not be able to track the completeness of your application until ARC has received and processed both the signature page and the payment for your application fee.
You will not receive any notifications regarding missing items, in your application. Applicants are required to check the status of their application in a timely manner. You can access the application status at any time as it is 24/7.
